Knights Topple Tulsa

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – A dominant defensive effort led the UCF women’s basketball team to a 60-44 victory over Tulsa in CFE Arena on Wednesday evening.

 

UCF (15-2, 4-0 The American) limited Tulsa (9-8, 3-1 The American) to just 25 percent shooting from the floor for the game and held them without a field goal in the second quarter.

 

The Golden Hurricane scored first and held a 5-4 advantage with 6:47 remaining in the opening quarter. Jamesha Paul put the Knights back in front, 6-5, at the 6:24 mark and UCF never looked back.

 

UCF poured in 22 points in the fourth quarter to hand Tulsa its first conference loss of the season. The Knights forced Tulsa into 25 turnovers, marking the 12th UCF opponent this season to have at least 20 turnovers in the game. 

 

Keeping her double-figure scoring streak intact, Kay Kay Wright led all scorers with 18 points and collected a career-best seven steals. Kayla Thigpen added 15 and Jamesha Paul chipped in 10. Wright, Masseny Kaba and Tolulope Omokore each grabbed five rebounds to lead UCF. Brittney Smith tied her career-best with a pair of blocks.

 

Just Keep Winning

  • UCF continues to make history, improving to 15-2 on the season.
  • At 4-0, the Knights are officially off to their best start in The American. They started conference action 3-0 last season for the first time in the league.
  • The Knights have won five straight games and remained unblemished in CFE Arena at 6-0.
  • Wednesday’s win was UCF’s first home victory over Tulsa for UCF head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson.

 

Squad Stepping Up

  • Eleven Knights saw action in Wednesday’s win.
  • Seven members of the team tallied at least three points and 10 collected at least one rebound.
  • Kayla Thigpen posted her eighth double-digit outing of the season and Jamesha Paul registered her third.
  • UCF finished with 16 steals, the second-most for the Knights this season. Seven Knights registered a steal on the stat sheet.


UCF rounds out the week at home, hosting SMU on Saturday. Part of a doubleheader, the game will tip off at 2 p.m. following the UCF men’s basketball noon game against Tulsa.
