Knights Set To Open Indoor Season

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The indoor season officially gets underway for the UCF track and field team as the Knights make the first of two trips to Clemson for the two-day Clemson Invitational on Friday.

The meet will mark the start of the Black and Gold’s first campaign under head coach Dana Boone, who took over the program in June 2018.

“We’ve had a good fall; everyone has bought in,” Boone said. “Now it’s time to line up and see what we’re made of, see what we’ve got. For me, this first meet it just to see ‘where do we go from here?’”

While the squad will suit up for the first official meet, their preparations heading into Friday remained the same as any other week.

“Nothing changes just because it’s meet day or meet week,” Boone said. “We continue to work on the things we’ve been working on all year. My philosophy is stick to the basics. If we can get just a little bit better each week, I’m pleased.”

In addition to Boone, Bryan Jackson and Ricardo Page take lead their respective events for the first indoor competition. Page takes over the throws group that returns a pair of school record holders in Jhane’ Carter and Gabby Durant.

“I’m excited to see what my staff and the student-athletes are prepared to do,” Boone said. “It’ll be good to see a total team effort.”

Friday action begins at 2:30 p.m. with both track and field events. The Knights will have competitors in the long jump, pole vault, shot put, 60-meter hurdles, mile and 60-meter dash on the first day of action.

On Saturday, UCF will begin at 12:20 p.m. in the 800-meter run. The Black and Gold will also compete in the 200-meter dash, 3,000-meter run, 4x400-meter relay, triple jump and weight throw.
