ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF Baseball head coach Greg Lovelady topped Baseball America’s list of “Top-10 Coaches Under 40” when it came out on Thursday morning.
Entering his third year at UCF, Lovelady has already ingrained a culture of winning. Already the fastest coach to 75 wins in program history, he has posted two seasons with at least 35 wins, including a 40-win campaign in 2017 that featured the American Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship and a spot in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
A five-year veteran of the head coaching ranks, Lovelady boasts a career record of 199-99 with an average of 40.6 victories per season. He has made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament between his stints in Orlando and at Wright State.
Lovelady and his staff have already churned out 10 MLB Draft picks over his two seasons, including a quartet picked in the top-10 rounds. With one of the top recruiting staffs in the country, the Knights made a splash with Lovelady’s first full recruiting class, which was ranked as one of the best in the country.
Lovelady was the lone representative from The American. It also featured Lovelady’s mentee and current Indiana head coach Jeff Mercer.
The 2019 season gets underway in mid-February with five straight weekend home series including a three-game set against Auburn, starting Feb. 22. For more information on the 2019 schedule, click here.
