ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s basketball team closes out 2018 on the road at its final non-conference game of the season. The Knights head to Connecticut to take on Quinnipiac on Sunday.
The Knights (10-2) will go up against the Bobcats (5-5) at 2 p.m. in the People’s United Center. The game will stream on ESPN+.
Knight Notes
- For the second time in the last three seasons under head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, UCF is off to a 10-2 start to the season. The Knights have won six of their last seven outings.
- The Knights picked up four votes in the USA Today/WBCA Top 25 on Dec. 24, extending its program-best streak to seven straight weeks receiving votes.
- Kay Kay Wright has scored in double figures in all 12 games, has three 20-point and a 30-point performance this season and is UCF’s leading scorer with 19.3 points per game.
- The Orlando native set a UCF single game record and tied the American Athletic Conference single game mark with 16 made free throws against Pacific on Dec. 17.
- UCF’s leading rebounder is Nyala Shuler with 7.2 boards per contest. She moved into fifth all-time in career rebounds this season with 706 and counting.
- Fifi Ndour has tallied eight blocks in the last five games, pushing her career total to 80, which moved her into seventh all-time at UCF.
Closing Out Non-Conference
- UCF brings a 10-2 record into the final non-conference contest of 2018, matching its best Division I start to a season for the second time in the last three years.
- The Knights have already faced eight opponents who advanced to the NCAA or WNIT tournaments a year ago and will face their ninth at Quinnipiac.
- The Black and Gold enter Sunday with a 6-2 record away from home and an unblemished 4-0 mark in CFE Arena.
Scouting the Opponents
- UCF face Quinnipiac for the second time in program history, but the first time on the road.
- The Bobcats hold the lone victory in the series, a 71-55 win in Orlando on Dec. 28, 2005.
- Quinnipiac is 5-5 on the season and will be the third consecutive opponent for the Knights that made the NCAA Tournament last season.
- Jen Fay leads the Bobcats with 12.7 points per game, 6.9 rebounds per game and 3.0 assists per game.
- Aryn McClure averages 2.0 steals per contest and Paula Strautmane averages 1.5 blocks per game.
