ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – UCF men’s golf volunteer assistant coach and recent alumnus Manuel Elvira has qualified for the Alps Tour after his performance over the weekend in qualifying.
After three rounds at the La Cala Resort in southern Spain, Elvira shot par to finish with a 215 and qualifying him for the Alps Tour, predominantly played in Europe.
In the first round, Elvira struggled and posted a 78, but bounced back the next two rounds with a 70 and a 67 to finish up the third round with the fifth best score. Elvira tallied 12 birdies and an eagle to help him secure a spot on the Tour.
Elvira, along with 38 players have obtained a category 6 on the Alps Tour which means they are guaranteed a spot in all the tournaments of the Alps Tour next season.
The 2019 season of the Alps Tour is scheduled to start in February with a series of tournaments in Egypt. The full 2019 tournament schedule is due to be released at the beginning of the year.
The Alps TOUR is a non-profit association, established in 2001 by four countries: Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland to give young professionals the opportunity to play and get a better experience of professional tournaments to play the Challenge Tour and the European Tour. It allows also for best players to get a category on Challenge Tour or/as well as exemptions from Stage 1 of the European Tour Qualifying School.
