ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Highlighted by 15 matches at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus, the UCF women’s tennis team announced its 2019 schedule.
The Knights will play 22 matches across five different states, with 17 taking place in Florida. Nine matches will take place against non-conference Power 6 opposition.
UCF is coming off a historic 2018 campaign that featured the first NCAA Tournament at-large berth in program history. The Black and Gold set a program record when it reached 19th in the ITA polls last spring.
Head coach Bryan Koniecko’s squad will do battle with 11 teams that reached the 2018 NCAA Tournament, including four squads that reached the Sweet 16. 16 of the potential 23 opponents finished 2018 ranked by the ITA, including 11 squads in the Top-25.
UCF will have the eyes of the collegiate tennis world on it on Feb. 24 for USTA College Match Day. The Knights will take on in-state rival Florida in a match that will be televised on Tennis Channel. Complimentary tickets can be acquired through Ticketmaster starting on Jan. 3.
The Black and Gold will open up the 2019 campaign with a doubleheader on Jan. 18. Against Georgia Southern and Stetson, before embarking on a three-match road swing, starting with a trip to Florida State on Jan. 20.
The Knights will then travel to Evanston, Ill., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 26-27. UCF will play Northwestern and either Miami or Tulsa.
After visits to Alabama (Feb. 15) and Ole Miss (Feb. 17), UCF will kickstart an 11-match homestand at the USTA National Campus, closing February against Georgia State (Feb. 21), Denver (Feb. 23) and Florida (Feb. 24).
The Black and Gold will host Yale on March 3, before a doubleheader against American Athletic Conference opponent Tulane and Miami University on March 8. The homestand will continue with bouts against Penn (March 10), SMU (March 13), Wichita State (March 17) and Tulsa (March 22). UCF will close its long stint at home against Illinois on March 24.
The Knights will hit the road for the final time for two matches on March 31 and April 5 against FIU and Oklahoma State, respectively.
The regular season concludes with the War On I-4 showdown at home against USF.
UCF will have homecourt advantage during the postseason as the American Athletic Conference Championship (April 18-22) and the NCAA Championship (May 20-29) will be played at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus.
