The highly anticipated 2018-19 season got started right when the Knights defeated defending MAAC Regular Season Champion Rider by a score of 84-70 on college basketball’s opening night. The excitement continues Sunday with the 32nd all-time meeting between UCF and FAU.

The Knights lead the series 22-9, but it has been the Owls who have had the upper hand lately, winning four of their last six meetings against UCF.

The last time these two teams met, a Dec. 12 meeting in 2015, UCF won 75-61 behind a double-double from A.J. Davis. Tacko Fall, who had five blocked shots in the opener on Tuesday, had six swats the last time UCF and FAU met.

Fall’s five rejections gave him 200 in his career, making him only the second Knight to ever achieve the feat. He is now 27 away from matching Keith Clanton’s all-time program record of 227 blocked shots.

NOTES TO KNOW

  • Aubrey Dawkins and Collin Smith both recorded double-doubles in the season opener, marking the first time UCF teammates have done so since Tacko Fall and A.J. Davis had double-doubles last season at Stetson (Dec. 19, 2017).
  • For Dawkins it was his first career double-double, recording career highs of 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.
  • The duo became the first pair of Knights to both record a double-double in their first games as Knights.
  • B.J. Taylor led the Knights with 22 points in the win over Rider, his 21st game scoring 20 or more points and the 35th time he has led UCF in scoring.
  • UCF leads the all-time series over FAU 22-9 and holds a 12-3 advantage in games played in Orlando.
