Knights Win Over Wildcats

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s basketball team closed out the UCF Thanksgiving Classic with a 71-56 victory over Villanova on the Jasper Contractors Court in CFE Arena on Sunday afternoon.

UCF (5-1) locked in defensively to hold a Villanova (3-2) squad that’s receiving votes in the USA Today/WBCA Top 25 poll to a season low in points and field goal percentage.

For the sixth time this season, Kay Kay Wright reached double figures, scoring a game-high 20. She just missed a double-double, tying her career best with nine rebounds and dished out six assists. Kayla Thigpen added a season-best 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and collected three steals.

Defense led to offense, again.

  • The Knights forced the Wildcats into 21 turnovers, scoring 23 points off the Villanova miscues.
  • UCF held Villanova to its lowest point total (56) and its worst field goal percentage (36.4 percent) of the season
  • The Knights reached the 70-point mark for the fourth time this season.

Total team effort for the win.

  • Ten Knights collected at least one rebound.
  • Five members of the Black and Gold combined for nine steals.
