ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The 2018 season came to a close on Sunday night for the UCF men’s soccer team. The No. 9 Knights (13-3-3) fell in overtime 1-0 to Lipscomb in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Knights enjoyed the lion’s share of chances during the match, outshooting the Bisons 19-8 for the match. Cal Jennings led the way for all players with six strikes. Richard Amon came on for 79 minutes and tallied five shots, three of which were on goal.
Jennings, Zachary Waitman, Yoni Sorokin, Yanis Leerman and Andres Hernandez Betancur went the distance of 142 minutes.
In back, Yannik Oettl kept command of the defense. The German international was called into action just one in each of the first and second halves. Oettl turned away three shots in the overtime period, including a quick, double-save less than a minute before Lipscomb’s game winner.

LIP | 96:58 | Ryan Birchfield found Austin Eager with a ball out on the left flank. Eager whipped a low ball into the box for Louis Robinson to finish one-timed at the top of the six-yard box.
NOTES TO KNOW
>> The Knights found the woodwork four times in the opening 45 minutes. Cal Jennings saw his opening effort from the top of the box carom off the bar in the third minute. He later had a close header skip off the cross bar again.
>> UCF recorded 12 of its 19 shots in the first half, forcing Lipscomb netminder Chris Zappia into five saves.
>> The Black and Gold finished with 10 corners on night with six in the second half, including a string of four in the early minutes of the second half.
>> Walker Dawkins took a pair of shots, as the Knights had nine different players with an attempt.
>> UCF finished the season 2-2-2 in overtime matches.
>> The 13 victories for the Knights this season were the most since 1998 and is tied for second most in a season in program history.
>> Head coach Scott Calabrese is now 21-9-5 after two seasons with UCF, making him just the second coach to eclipse 20 wins in his first two campaigns in program history.
