ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s basketball team continues road action on Sunday, heading to Mercer matinee matchup.
UCF (2-0) will face the Bears (2-1) at 2 p.m. in Hawkins Arena. The game will stream on ESPN+.
Knight Notes
- UCF is off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2016-17.
- Sydnee McDonald became the first Knight to reach the 20-point mark this season, dropping 24 on 66.7 percent shooting in the win at Stetson.
- McDonald hit six threes in the victory, becoming the first Knight since Zykira Lewis in 2016 to drain five or more threes in a contest.
- Nyala Shuler used an 11-rebound outing against the Hatters to push her career total to 641, which is seventh all-time at UCF.
- Kay Kay Wright is two-for-two in double-digit scoring performances this season, averaging 18.0 points per game this season.
Heating Up
- UCF shot just eight percent in the first quarter of the season opener at Pitt. The Knights did not repeat that performance at Stetson.
- The Black and Gold were five-for-five to start the game against the Hatters and finished the first quarter shooting nearly 77 percent.
- The Knights also turned in a strong performance in the fourth quarter – shooting 60 percent in the final 10 minutes.
- UCF finished the game shooting 52 percent from the floor and 56.3 from beyond the arc.
Scouting the Bears
- UCF will face Mercer for the second consecutive season. The Knights hosted the Bears in their 2017-18 season opener, dropping a 73-64 decision in Orlando.
- The Knights lead the all-time series, 26-17. UCF is 8-7 in contests in Macon.
- Mercer enters the game with a 2-1 overall record, riding a two-game win streak.
- KeKe Calloway leads the Bears with 27.3 points per game, shooting 42 percent from three. She also leads Mercer with 17 assists and pulls down 5.0 rebounds per contest.
Next up, the Knights close out a four-game road stretch at Central Michigan on Nov. 21.
