Knights Set for Myrtle Beach Invitational

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) –The UCF men’s basketball team looks to rebound this weekend with three games in four days at the inaugural Myrtle Beach Invitational, beginning Thursday at 1:30 p.m. against Cal State Fullerton.

UCF (1-1) made its way to South Carolina on Tuesday and will be in Myrtle Beach through Sunday’s final day of competition. The Knights take on a Titans (1-1) team that fell in overtime to Arizona State on opening night and then defeated West Coast Baptist.

 

On Friday, UCF will take on either Saint Joseph’s or Wake Forest. With a win, Friday’s game will take place at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN2 and with a first round loss, the Knights would play on Friday at 11 a.m. on ESPNU.

 

The other side of the bracket includes West Virginia, Valparaiso, Monmouth and Western Kentucky. Sunday’s Championship Game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

 

NOTES TO KNOW

  • UCF and Cal State Fullerton have never met on the court in men’s basketball.
  • The Knights have won their first round game during in-season tournament play each of the first two years under Johnny Dawkins, defeating Mississippi State in the 2016 Charleston Classic and topping Nebraska in the 2017 AdvoCare Invitational.
  • UCF has never played any of the three teams on its side of the bracket.
  • The Knights have played all four teams on the other side, most recently West Virginia in last season’s AdvoCare Invitational semifinals.
  • B.J. Taylor was named to The American’s Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 25.5 points per game over the first two contests of the 2018-19 season.
  • Taylor has passed Matt Williams for 17th place in program history with 1,143 career points.
