ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Stetson for a midweek matchup.

 

UCF (1-0) will take on the Hatters (0-1) at 7 p.m. at the Edmunds Center. The game will stream on ESPN+.              

 

Knight Notes

  • UCF returns to action after a week away from the court. The Knights won their season opener, 61-58, at Pitt on Nov. 7.
  • Kay Kay Wright scored 15 of her 19 points in the second half to lift the Black and Gold to the comeback victory.
  • Nyala Shuler grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and swatted a pair of shots in the win.
  • UCF committed just seven turnovers, which is the third-fewest in the country after the opening week of action.
  • Brittney Smith made her UCF debut as a member of the starting five and scored the opening basket of the 2018-19 campaign.

 

The Series

  • UCF will face Stetson for the first time in the regular season since Dec. 2, 2015, which also took place in DeLand.
  • The Knights lead the all-time series, 34-28, and hold the most recent victory with a 73-53 win the second round of the WNIT on March 16, 2017.
  • The programs have several ties, having played together in the ASUN from 1992-2005. Head coach of the Hatters, Lynn Bria, was the UCF head coach from 1996-99, accumulating 50 wins with the Knights.
  • Nyala Shuler also has a connection to Stetson as both of her parents played for the Hatters.

 

Scouting the Hatters

  • Stetson opens the home portion of its season with an 0-1 record after dropping its season opener at Tulsa, 55-54 on Nov. 6.
  • McKenna Beach led the Hatters with 20 points in the loss to the Hurricanes, making 10 free throws. She just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
  • Addi Walters added 11 points, and Megan Vincent pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.

 

Next up, the Knights head out for a Nov. 18 matchup at Mercer.
