ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s soccer team has won three straight matches and boasts one of the top offenses in the country breaking into the Top 25 polls this week.
The Knights (8-2-1; 2-1) are ranked 19th by the United Soccer Coaches poll and 17th by Top Drawer after seven weeks of play.
UCF is coming off a 4-3 win over at Tulsa with Cal Jennings netting a pair of goals and Hattabiou Barry and Yoni Sorokin also adding a goal each.
In their last three wins, UCF has outscored their opponents, 14-4, including an 8-1 roll over Jacksonville.
Through 11 games, the Knights are top five in the nation in total assists, total, goals, total points, scoring offense, assists per game, points per game, while leading all Division I teams in shots and shots on goal per game.
The Black and Gold are also dominating the American Athletic Conference in 10 offensive categories.
Jennings is grabbing national attention as one of the best forwards of the 2018 campaign. Nationally, Jennings is ranked second in goals per game, points per game, shots on goal, total goals and total points.
The junior broke the American Athletic Conference single-season points record on Saturday with his two-goal outing against Tulsa. With 32 points so far this season, Jennings snapped the previous record of 31 held by three former standouts: UConn’s Cyle Larin (2013), Temple’s Jorge Gomez Sanchez (2015, 2016) and SMU’s Garrett McLaughlin (2017). With 14 goals, Jennings enters the week tied for the American single-season record.
This week, Jennings has been named The American’s Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season and was named to Top Drawer’s team of the week for the second time in a month.
