ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - After taking a break from the American Athletic Conference to defeat the Jacksonville Dolphins, the Knights are ready to head into the fray and are facing off against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday at 8 p.m ET.
The UCF men’s soccer team (7-2-1) trounced Jacksonville in a landslide victory of 8-1, with Cal Jennings, Walker Dawkins, Richard Amon and C.J. Campbell each registering two goals, while nine Knights handed out assists.
Head coach Scott Calabrese notched his 100th career win as a head coach in the victory as he prepared to seek out win 101.
THE OPPONENT
- Although the Knights scored a 3-0 win against Tulsa at last year’s home game, Tulsa has an overall (10-2-3) lead in the all-time series with the Knights.
- The Golden Hurricane is running a record of 3-6-1 this season and 0-2 in conference play.
- Gilles Kuhler has a team-best three goals, while Juan Sanchez and Joe Ruiz both have two score.
- The Golden Hurricane is facing up against UCF after a 2-3 (2 OT) loss against USF, creating a losing streak of 5 games.
KNIGHT BITES
- Yannik Oettl was named Goalkeeper of the Week this week after allowing only one goal against the Dolphins.
- Oettl also picked up his second assist of the season with a pass from inside the Knights’ six-yard box to Dawkins who was able to score with ease.
- The Knights continue to make headway in The American by ranking in the top 3 in 13 offensive categories.
- The Black and Gold are 3-1 on the road and outscore their opponents 9-5.
- UCF consistency continues to work to their advantage. The Knights have scored 11 goals in the first half and 14 beyond the halfway point.
- Jennings is barreling forward as an offensive weapon with a shot on goal average of 68-percent accuracy. He’s scored a total of 12 goals and an overall 28 points in just nine games played. The junior ranks second in the nation in the top offensive categories.
