UCF vs. Flagler |
ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) –For the first time since the 2014-15 season, UCF fans will get to see the men’s basketball team in game action prior to the start of the regular season. Before opening up the 2018-19 campaign on Nov. 6 against Rider, the Knights will host nearby Division II opponent Flagler in an exhibition, Monday night at CFE Arena.
UCF and Flagler will tip off at 7 p.m. Monday, meeting for the first time since 2014-15 when the Knights won 109-86 in the first of two exhibition games. UCF holds a 10-0 advantage in regular season play, but the two teams haven’t met in an official contest since 1999.
Monday night’s exhibition is free admission for fans. To claim your ticket in advance click here: https://ucfknights.co/2OcqxHl, or call (407) 823-1000 for more information.
Fans will have the opportunity to get a first look at the Knights, who come into their third season under head coach Johnny Dawkins with higher expectations than ever. UCF was picked by the coaches of The American to win the conference, a program first for the Knights.
UCF, with senior B.J. Taylor, Tacko Fall, Chad Brown and Dayon Griffin back to the fold, was also receiving votes in both national preseason top 25 polls. It’s the first time in program history that the Knights were receiving votes in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll.
Plenty of excitement also surrounds newcomers Aubrey Dawkins and Collin Smith. Dawkins, a transfer from Michigan and son of Johnny, sat out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA rules and then missed all of last season after shoulder surgery. Smith is set to play his first season as a Knight after transferring in from George Washington.
UCF begins the 2018-19 with eight of its 12 non-conference games at CFE Arena. Following Nov. 6’s opener, which tips off at 6:30 p.m., the Knights will host FAU on Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. before heading out of town for three games at the Myrtle Beach Invitational, Nov. 15-18.
