Sokolovskiy Reaches Consolation Finals

ATHENS, Ga. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s tennis had another strong outing at the 2018 ITA Southeast Regional at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Entering Tuesday, the Knights will have a chance to bring home hardware for the third time this fall.

Mikhail Sokolovskiy will lone Knight in action on Tuesday. The sophomore edged Roberts Grinvalds from Georgia State in the quarters of the consolation draw, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. The Russian international later beat Antonio Muniz Hidalgo from Gerogia Southern, 6-2, 6-2, to set up a championship battle with Rana-Roop Singh Bhular of Florida State.

The freshmen doubles team of Trey Hilderbrand and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi  were on the wrong side of an 8-4 loss to Francisco Bastias and Bojan Jankulovski from Miami.

Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi bested Florida's ace Johannes Ingildsen, the tournament No. 1 seed and the No. 11 ranked singles player in the nation, in the quarters of the singles flight in dominant fashion, 6-1, 6-1. The rookie just missed out on a berth in the finals, falling to Adria Soriano Barrera from Miami in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-2.

Alan Rubio fell in his quarterfinal matchup in the consolation draw against Fermin Calvo Barcelo of Kennesaw State, 6-1, 6-2.
