ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – The Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame announced today the 14 semifinalists for the 2018 Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, awarded to the best defensive back in college football, and UCF’s Richie Grant was among those honored.
Grant, in his first season as a starting safety for UCF, leads the Knights with 58 tackles and three interceptions. He has 1.5 tackles-for-loss, two pass break-ups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Twice named to The American’s Weekly Honor Roll, Grant is the only member of the league to be named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award.
The three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award will be named on Nov. 19 and the winner will be announced live at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 6, airing on ESPN.
Grant and the No. 10/10 Knights are on a bye this week and will return to action on Nov. 1, hosting Temple. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Spectrum Stadium with coverage on ESPN and FM 96.9/AM 740 The Game.
