Evans, Wright Named Players of the Week

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – A pair of Knights were honored by the American Athletic Conference for the second straight week on Monday, as Nate Evans and Matthew Wright were named Players of the Week.

Evans earned his first career Defensive Player of the Week honor from the league after recording 10 tackles, a sack, a pass-break up and a fumble recovery in UCF’s 37-10 win over ECU on Saturday. He also returned that fumble 94 yards for a touchdown to give the Knights a 30-10 lead with 10:07 to play in the fourth quarter.

On the season, Evans is second on the team with 48 total tackles and has 4.0 tackles-for-loss, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. The Waggaman, La., native has started the last five games at linebacker.

For the second week in a row, Matthew Wright was named the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. He went 3-for-3 on field goals of 39 yards, 41 yards and 46 yards, which was a season long for the senior.

Wright has been named the league’s Player of the Week three times in his career and is UCF’s all-time leader in points scored with 330. The Lancaster, Pa., native also needs just three more field goals to break Shawn Moffitt’s UCF record of 53 career field goals made.

Evans, Wright and the No. 10/10 Knights are on a bye this week and will return to action on Nov. 1, hosting Temple. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Spectrum Stadium with coverage on ESPN and FM 96.9/AM 740 The Game.
