Men's Tennis Opens ITA Regionals on Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s tennis team will head to the University of Georgia this weekend to compete in the 2018 ITA Southeast Regional Championships. Six Knights will hit face opponents from 14 other institutions at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

Play opened on Friday with the qualifying draws for singles and doubles. After an opening round bye, sophomore Vasyl Kiselyov started his weekend with a win against Steven Huynh from Georgia State, 6-4, 6-1, to set up a third-round matchup against Tatsuki Shimamoto from Miami for a spot in the main draw.

Manoel Alencar will face Sergio Gomez Montesa from South Florida in the round of 64 in the main singles draw. Sophomore Mikhail Sokolovskiy will start his weekend with a bye. The Russian international will face either North Florida Dominik Barton or Georgia’s Britton Johnston. Alan Rubio will meet Lukas Greif from Florida in the first round, and Trey Hilderbrand will face the winner of FSU’s Rana-Roop Singh Bhular and Mercer’s Oliver Stuart.

In the doubles flight, Hilderbrand and playing partner Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi will square off with the doubles team of Stefano Di Aloy and Martijn Kerssens from Georgia Southern. Rubio and Alencar till meet up with the Georgia State tandem of Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds. Kiselyov and Sokolovskiy will round out UCF’s doubles teams with a matchup against Miami’s Pablo Aycart Joya and Tatsuki Shimamoto.

This will be the third collegiate tournament of the fall for the Black and Gold. Gabriel DeCamps won the main singles flight of the 51st Annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships to open the fall slate. Alan Rubio followed that up with the singles title at the Bedford Cup.
