ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF Knights won the battle Saturday evening with USF in the War On I-4 grabbing a 2-1 victory at the UCF Soccer Complex.
Cal Jennings netted his 18th goal of the season, while Walker Dawkins converted the game-winning goal giving the Knights the win. Andres Hernandez Betancur picked up his first collegiate point with an assist.
It was USF’s first conference loss this season with two weeks left to play before the conference tournament.
UCF improves to 10-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Bulls drop to 5-6-2 on the season and 2-1-2.
Yannik Oettl improves to 10-2-2 on the season between the posts.
SCORING
- UCF | 00:58 | Jennings caught a lazy USF defense and intercepted a pass, sprinted passed a pair of defenders with the ball, and ripped a shot through the keeper’s legs for his 18th goal of the season.
- USF | 19:54 | Adrian Billhardt sent a cross in to Josue Monge who headed a ball above Oettl for the equalizer.
- UCF | 67:39 | Hernandez Betancur sent a long ball from midfield into Dawkins in the 18-yard box. Dawkins passed the ball to himself after a perfect first touch off his chest, turned around and blasted a shot into the corner of the net.
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- With the win, the Knights grabbed six points in the War On I-4 to go up 9-0 on USF this season.
- UCF moved into second place in The American standings and just one point behind leader, UConn.
- The Black and Gold are unbeaten in their last six contests. The Knights haven’t lost since Sept. 21.
- In home matches this season, the Knights are 6-1-2 and have outscored visitors, 24-7. The Knights have accumulated 72 points at home.
- In the last two seasons, UCF is 10-1-3 on their home turf.
- Oettl recorded a season-high seven saves in the win.
- Jennings is now third in the program’s single season goal record book.
