ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The No. 24 UCF women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to SMU at the UCF Soccer Complex on Thursday evening.
The Knights (8-5-1, 5-2 The American) battled SMU (9-5-1, 4-3 The American) on the pitch, holding a 13-6 edge in shots in the contest.
UCF out-shot the Mustangs in both halves, turning up the intensity in the second period. In a match that looked to be headed to extra time, a late play from SMU turned the tide.
In the 81st minute, the Mustangs were able to find the back of the net, as a combination play set Allie Thornton up for what turned into the game-winning goal.
The Knights close out their home regular season on Sunday, hosting Houston at 1 p.m. UCF will recognize its eight-member senior class prior to the start of the game.
