ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – In a well-fought 110 minutes, the No.19 UCF men’s soccer team tied with No. 20 UConn in a scoreless double overtime match Friday afternoon at the UCF Soccer Complex.
Cal Jennings led all players with seven shots in 91 minutes of play. Louis Perez collected four shots with two on target, while Hattabiou Barry added three.
Yannik Oettl started his 12th consecutive game for the Knights recording a shutout for his third this season.
UCF controlled the ball for most of the game and was able to wear down the Huskies, but with only three shots on goal, the Knights weren’t able to notch a goal. The UCF backline went to work for the Knights allowing just two shots on goal, which is third time this season the Knights have allowed only two on target.
The Knights move to 8-2-2 overall this season and 2-1-1 in American Athletic Conference play.
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Knights dominated possession keeping UConn to just two total shots in the first half.
- At the halftime break, the Knights held a 10-2 shot advantage with two on target.
- UConn was not awarded a corner for the entire match. UCF finished with nine corners.
- At the end of regulation, the Knights held a 17-7 shot advantage and ended the match with 19 total shots.
- This was the fourth overtime match of the season for UCF.
- In overtime matches this season, the Knights are 1-1-2.
- UCF’s home record moves to 4-1-2 with three matches left to play in the regular season at the UCF Soccer Complex.
