Knights Finish Third at USF Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – In its final tune-up before the conference championship, the UCF cross country team earned a third place finish at the South Florida Invitational on Friday evening.

The Knights collected 105 points as a squad, edging Florida by a pair of points in the 10-team field at The Claw – USF Golf Course. UCF finished just behind FIU and Florida Gulf Coast, but ahead of the Gators, Florida Atlantic, Miami, Jacksonville, South Florida, Stetson and Bethune-Cookman in the team standings.

Five Knights finished in the top 35 of the 5K race.

For the third time this season, Victoria Jung was the first Knight to cross the finish line. The junior finished in 18:58.79 to take eighth overall in the field of 91 Division I competitors.

The second Knight across the line, Jessica Dolan posted a time of 19:32.22 for 16th overall.

A pair of Knights finished back-to-back, as Kaitlyn Soltis took 23rd in 19:41.43 and Shayla Sanders cross in 19:42.07 for 24th.

Crystal Tejeda joined her teammates in the top 35, as her 20:16.99 finish put her in 34th overall. Kayla McGowan finished 59th in 21:25.98, followed by Shiree Hinds’ 22:52.05 for 77th.

Next up, the Knights will compete at the American Athletic Conference Championship on Oct. 25 in New Orleans, La.
