Knights Ready for Bedford Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The women’s tennis team enters its first collegiate fall tournament of the season this weekend with the Bedford Cup down in Miami. Head coach Brian Koniecko will send his squad down to Coral Gables to square off with opponents from other Division I schools in Florida.

Rebeka Stolmar will open her tournament off in the top singles flight as the No. 1 seed after a bye. Ksenia Kuznetsova will also be in the top flight as the No. 5 seed. She will face Alexandria Mjos from South Florida in the opening round. Freshman Domenika Turkovic, the No. 4 seed in the top flight, will go up against Florida A&M’s Mialiniaina Rakotondrazafy. Junior transfer Sara Culbertson will be in her old stomping grounds for the weekend as she opens up against Maja Ornberg, the No. 6 seed, from FGCU.

Natalia Serrano is the top-seeded player in the second flight of singles. The Spanish international will have a bye into the quarterfinals. Freshman Valentina Martin will hit the court against Patricia Villar from FGCU in the first round of the third flight.

In the top flight of doubles action, the No. 1 seeded pairing of Kuznetsova and Stolmar will face their first opposition in the quarters following a bye. Serrano and Turkovic will meet Jemileth Aguilar and Natalia Boltinskaya from FAU in the opening round on Friday morning.

Culbertson and Martin will represent the Black and Gold in the second flight of doubles as the No. 2 seed.
