ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – On the final day of the Bedford Cup, UCF men’s tennis sophomore Alan Rubio won the main flight single title on Sunday afternoon at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus. Rubio became the second Knight to win a singles title this fall after Gabriel DeCamps on the 51st Annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
Rubio opened the day in the semifinals with a 6-4, 7-5 win over teammate Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi, who was unattached and the No. 2 seed this weekend. He then squared off with USF’s Alberto Barroso Campos, the No. 1 seed in the championship match. Rubio handled his War On I-4 opponent in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
The Knights send players to the ITF F27 Futures in Houston, Texas, next weekend before heading to the ITA Southeast Regional on Oct. 16.
