UCF Starts Season at Cougar Classic

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s golf team kicks off the season with the 15th annual Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. from Sept. 9-11.

Representing UCF will be Maria Balcazar, Nicolette Donovan, Anna Hack, and newcomers Elizabeth Moon and Alyssa Lamoureux.

The Knights will be competing against 18 other teams at the Yeamans Hall Club. UCF tees off at 8:42 a.m. on the par 72 course, which will consist of 18 holes for each of the three rounds.

Last season, the Knights finished second at the American Athletic Conference championships after shooting a three-round score of 884.

Balcazar will return as one of the team’s top players this season after averaging 74.6 strokes per round for 17 events during the 2017-18 season. The junior finished 8th individually at The American Championships with a 54-hole total of 220 (+4).

The senior duo of Hack and Donovan look to make a lasting impression during their final seasons after averaging 76.4 and 77.5 in their junior year, respectively.

Moon will be a standout for the Knights from the start. Moon, a Forest City, Ark. product, was a semifinalist at the 2017 USGA Junior Girls Championship, falling to the eventual champion in a playoff. Moon is ranked No. 30 in the AJGA Rolex Rankings and is rated as the No. 9 recruit in the Class of 2018. She won the 2017 Arkansas State High School Championship and was also the 2014 Arkansas State Match Play champion.

Lamoureux is one of the top junior golfers in the State of Florida. She earned 2016 Florida State Golf Association (FSGA) Junior Golfer of the Year honors one year after being runner-up for that title. Lamoureux was the 2015 Florida High School Activities Association Class 3A State Champion, playing for Seminole High School.
