Knights Post 1-1 Draw At Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (UCFKnights.com) – After a weather delay and two overtime periods, the UCF women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Maryland on Thursday evening at Ludwig Field.

UCF (1-2-1) scored early, taking a 1-0 advantage into halftime, but Maryland (2-3-2) found the equalizer in the 64th minute to force the match into extra time.

In her first official match with the Knights, junior Konya Plummer put UCF in front first. Less than three minutes after entering the match, Plummer, who returned to the Black and Gold after competing for Jamaica in the Concacaf Caribbean Women’s Qualifiers, showed her speed on a through ball to put the Knights up 1-0 in the 33rd minute.

The Terrapins responded with a marker of their own in the 64th minute, collecting a rebound to find the back of the net for the equalizer.

UCF dominated both overtime periods, taking four shots to Maryland’s one. The Knights saw several chances hit the post or find the gloves of Terrapin goalkeeper Rachel Egyed.

The Knights held the edge in shots, 20-6, and corner kicks, 11-1. The Black and Gold put nine shots on frame. Senior Vera Varis made four saves in goal for UCF.
