ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Newcomer Pedro Lencart Silva is continuing to have success in international golf after shooting 67(-5) in the first round of the World Amateur Team Championships near Dublin, Ireland.
Lecart Silva is playing for his home country of Portugal as part of the three-man team, who currently sits tied for seventh after Lencart Silva carried his team on day one. Portugal is just one stroke behind Japan and New Zealand and six behind the leader, Denmark.
Individually, Lencart Silva is also tied for seventh. In the first round, Lencart Silva birdied four holes on the front nine and three on the back on the prestigious Montgomerie Course at the Carton House Golf Club.
Lencart Silva was selected as the player to watch from Portugal after his recent success winning the Junior Open Championship and the Boys Amateur Championship in 2016 and 2017.
The World Amateur Team Championships are a biennial international amateur golf competition that rotates among three geographic zones of the world: Asia-Pacific, Americas and Europe-Africa. The men’s competition plays for the keeps of the Eisenhower Trophy.
Each team has two or three players, who each play 18 holes of stroke play over four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team’s score for the championship.

UCF will begin its' season at the Hartford Hawk Invitational on Sept. 17-18 in South Kent, Connecticut where they will defend last year’s championship.
