Knights Set for Thursday Match at Maryland

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s soccer team continues its road stretch, heading to Maryland for a Thursday night contest at Ludwig Field.

The 7 p.m. contest between the Knights and the Terps will stream on the BTN Plus.

The Knights

  • UCF extends its stretch of matches away from home to four, after traveling to Chapel Hill to two games and earning a victory at Miami.
  • Zandy Soree leads the Knights offensively with a pair of goals on the season. Kristen Scott scored her first collegiate marker in the final seconds at Miami.
  • The Knights are one of two teams in the country to face back-to-back nationally ranked opponents in its first two games of the season.
  • Following the match at Maryland, UCF will open its home campaign on Sept. 9 against Florida.

Defensive Decoration

  • On Monday, a pair of Knights were recognized by the American Athletic Conference after leading a stifling UCF defense to a shutout victory at Miami.
  • Miami took just five shots during the 90-minute match.
  • Vera Varis earned the second Goalkeeper of the Week accolade of her career. Varis was credited with just four saves, disrupting the Hurricane offense before Miami could even get a shot on goal.
  • Emily Tipton, earning her third start of the season on UCF’s back line, collected her first Defensive Player of the Week honor.

 

The Terps

  • Maryland enters the match with a 2-3-1 overall record, dropping its last two contests.
  • Thursday’s contest marks the first meeting between the two programs.
  • The Terps are led offensively by Jarena Harmon, who has three goals in the squads first six matches. Anissa Mose has also tallied a marker for Maryland this fall.
  • In goal, Rachel Egyed and Erin Seppi have split time, with each earning three starts. Egyed has a 1.04 goals-against average, while Seppi has a 1.20 GAA.
