ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s soccer team returns to action on Sunday, traveling to Coral Gables to take on Miami.

The 6 p.m. contest between the Knights and the Hurricanes will stream on the ACC Network Extra.

The Knights

  • UCF continues its road stretch after opening its 2018 campaign in Chapel Hill.
  • The Knights are one of two teams in the country to face back-to-back nationally ranked opponents in its first two games of the season.
  • Senior goalkeeper Vera Varis pulled in the preseason accolades, earning a spot on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. The Vantaa, Finland, native was tabbed as the American Athletic Conference Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year and was named the First Team Goalkeeper on the Top Draw Best XI.
  • In addition to Varis, sophomore Dina Orschmann was named to The American’s preseason all-conference squad. The Berlin native spent the preseason representing Germany at the U20 Women’s World Cup.

They’re Back

  • Sophomores Dina Orschmann and Stefanie Sanders returned from the U20 Women’s World Cup in time for the trip to Chapel Hill.
  • Orschmann earned a starting nod for UCF against then-No. 21 Texas, making her presence felt almost immediately as she found junior Zandy Soree for the equalizer against the Longhorns.
  • Sanders returned for the Aug. 26 contest against then-No. 4 UNC, accounting for four of UCF’s six shots on goal against the Tar Heels.

The Hurricanes

  • Miami enters the match with a 3-2 overall record, splitting its last two contests.
  • The Hurricanes are led offensively by Gudrun Haralz, who has three goals and a pair of assists in the first five matches. Michelle Giamportone has two goals and an assist for Miami.
  • Seven different Hurricanes have tallied a marker in 2018.
  • In goal, Phallon Tullis-Joyce has seen the majority of minutes, allowing seven goals for a 1.43 goals against average.
