Heupel Hits: vs. SC State Preview

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) - For those wondering where the UCF football team's focus lies heading into week two, "it's about us," says head coach Josh Heupel.

The first-year head coach met with the media for the final time before the Knights host South Carolina State Saturday in the team's 2018 home opener, stressing the he, his staff, and the team are focused on what they need to do to be 1-0 for the second straight week.

"This is ture every week. We're in a race to be as good as we can as fast as we can," Heupel said. "It is about us and our preparation. It's about our attention to detail. It's about how we mentally and physically get ourselves prepared."

The Knights were prepared for the opener, winning 56-17 on the road against a conference opponent. And since then, Heupel thinks his team is even more motivated in practice.

"Just looking at our practice habits compared to a week ago, we've continued to improve," he said. "When we were practicing with helmets and shoulder pads on early in the week, our kids had great energy, great purpose, they competed hard."

When it comes to Saturday, and what his plan of attack is, the head coach reiterated that his plan, and that of his team, is to live in the moment and not worry about what's coming next.

"You play a game 10 times, it's going to unfold differently every single time," Heupel said. "We're going to play one snap at a time. The previous snap doesn't matter. The next one doesn't matter. All that matters is this snap right here. As the game unfolds, we'll play it as it goes."

The Knights host South Carolina State Saturday at 6 p.m. on ESPN3 and FM 96.9/AM 740 The Game.
