Moon Advances at US Women's Amateur

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. (UCFKnights.com) -- Elizabeth Moon, who will be a freshman on the UCF women's golf team this fall, has qualified for match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur.

Moon fired back-to-back rounds of 69 (-2) Monday and Tuesday to finish 4-under for the two rounds of stroke play. That was good enough to tie for 8th place in stroke play and earn the No. 10 seed for match play.

Moon's first match play contest is slated for 2:45 p.m. Wednesday. She will face off with Crystal Wang of Diamond Bar, Calif.

Moon qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur by finishing as the runner-up at the Braselton, Ga. Qualifier, played at Chateau Elan Golf Club. Moon was a semifinalist at the 2017 USGA Junior Girls Championship, falling to the eventual champion in a playoff. Moon was ranked No. 30 in the AJGA Rolex Rankings when she signed with UCF and was the No. 9 recruit in the Class of 2018. The Forest City, Ark. product won the 2017 Arkansas State High School Championship and was also the 2014 Arkansas State Match Play champion.

Rising junior Maria Balcazar also qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur but did not advance beyond stroke play.
