ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Bobby Bai and Pedro Lencart Silva of the UCF Men’s Golf team are having a successful offseason competing in two of the best-known golf tournaments.

Bai is in Pebble Beach competing in the U.S. Amateur Open. Bai qualified for the tournament after he shot a four-under-par 140 at the Decotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton, Minn., to beat out a field of 70 competitors and advance to the national championship.

In the opening round of the Amateur Championship, Bai collected four birdies to shoot a 70(-1) and followed up first round with a 74 to wrap up stroke play tied for 24th out of a field of 312.

Bai will move to the round of 64 in a bracket play format with a 2 p.m. EST tee time against Thomas Vick, who finished stroke play tied for 36th.

Lencart Silva, a newcomer to the squad, is defending his title in the Boys Amateur Golf Championship in Northern Ireland. The Portugal native won the 91st Boys Amateur Championship last year after winning the R&A’s Junior Open becoming the first player since Sergio Garcia to win both titles.

In the first round, Lencart Silva shot a 76, but bounced back with a 70(-2) to put himself tied for 43rd. Lencart Silva moves on to match play with the top 64 players to be played Thursday.
