Five Tabbed ITA Scholars

ITA Academic Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After posting one of the most successful seasons in program history, the UCF women's tennis team added another honor to its list. On Tuesday, the Knights garnered their eighth straight Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team honor.

Silvia Bordes, Maria Martinez, Monica Matias, Natalia Serrano and Rebeka Stolmar garnered ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition, as the Knights recorded a 3.74 team GPA.

The Knights reached the NCAA Tournament as an at-large selection for the first time in program history and picked up their first postseason victory in the opening round against FIU. Martinez and Ksenia Kuznetsova became the first doubles pairing in team history to reach the NCAA Women's Tennis Doubles Championship as the automatic qualifier from the American Athletic Conference.

Head coach Bryan Koniecko received The American Coach of the Year Award, while Stolmar was named the Freshman of the Year.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2017 and spring 2018).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
