2018 Preview - The football season is just around the corner. Leading into camp, fans will have an opportunity to get a look at what the Knights will have in store for the 2018 campaign with position-by-position previews. Watch highlights of returners and read up on what to expect this fall.
SPECIALISTS
Each of the three starting specialists from 2017 will be back on the field for the Knights this season.
Matthew Wright returns to handle the placekicking duties one season after being named Second Team All-Conference by The American. Wright is among the best placekickers in UCF history, with his name all over the record books.
For his career, he is 43-of-57 on field goal attempts, with a long of 50 yards. He is 136 of 139 for his career in PATs for a .978 percentage that ranks No. 2 in program history.
Wright also excels in the classroom and in the community. He's an Order of Pegasus winner, which is the highest honor a UCF student can receive at the university.
Wright's holder for placekicks is also the Knights' starting punter. Mac Loudermilk "held" down both roles last season.
Loudermilk was also a Second Team All-AAC selection at punter last season. Perhaps just as importantly, Loudermilk was also a finalist for the Mortell Holder of the Year award in 2017.
Loudermilk left 19 of his 41 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line in 2017. Loudermilk averaged nearly 40 yards a punt, boomed seven 50-yard kicks and forced 26 fair catches. He has not allowed a touchback for two straight seasons.
Caleb Perez was the Knights' long-snapper in 2017 and did not have an errant snap. Perez handled 81 PAT attempts, 18 field goal attempts and 46 punts for a total of 145 successful snaps last season.
In the return game, the Knights will need to replace Mike Hughes, who was an outstanding kick and punt returner.
