AVCA Academic Accolades

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - For the fifth consecutive year, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has awarded the UCF volleyball team with the Team Academic Award.

The Knights posted a fall GPA of 3.40 and a spring GPA of 3.54 for a 3.43 GPA during the 2017-18 academic year.

"Having a sense of academic pride and accomplishment really allows our graduates to go out in the world and be successful, even in the most stressful areas of life," said head coach Todd Dagenais.

The Knights had six student-athletes record a GPA of 3.5 or better during the fall and seven compile a 3.5 GPA or higher throughout the 2017-18 school year. UCF has earned the Team Academic Award in eight of the last nine years.

"Although on the outside we are evaluated by wins and losses, I evaluate our program on our academic success and ability to produce market ready employees. I believe it's our job as coaches to prepare the women of our program for real life," Dagenais continued.

Created during the 1992-93 academic year, the AVCA award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale during the academic year. UCF joins 162 Division I volleyball programs earning the accolade this year.

UCF volleyball gets their season started on Aug. 24 as they take on FGCU in the Sunshine State Challenge in Coral Gables, Fla. The Black and Gold open play at The Venue at UCF on Sept. 7 against FIU at 11 a.m. in the UCF Challenge.
