Knights Qualify for U.S. Women's Amateur

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) -- Two UCF women's golf team members have qualified for the United States Women's Amateur Championship.

Maria Balcazar and Elizabeth Moon will each be taking part in the U.S. Women's Amateur, which is slated for August 6-12 at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn.

Balcazar qualified on July 6 by shooting a 70 in the Monroe, N.C. Qualifier, held at Monroe Country Club. Balcazar was the 2017 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and an all-conference choice. She missed much of last season with an injury, but returned to help lead the Knights to a runner-up finish at The American Championship. She will be a junior with UCF this fall.

Moon will be a freshman with the Knights this fall. She qualified by finishing as the runner-up at the Braselton, Ga. Qualifier, played at Chateau Elan Golf Club. Moon was a semifinalist at the 2017 USGA Junior Girls Championship, falling to the eventual champion in a playoff. Moon was ranked No. 30 in the AJGA Rolex Rankings when she signed with UCF and was the No. 9 recruit in the Class of 2018. She won the 2017 Arkansas State High School Championship and was also the 2014 Arkansas State Match Play champion.
