Bravo For Bai

MORTON, Minn. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF rising junior Bobby Bai turned in a medalist performance to clinch a spot at the 2018 U.S. Amateur Championship on July 9.

"I have always wanted to play at the U.S. Amateur," Bai said. "I'm looking forward to the match play marathon."

Bai shot a four-under-par 140 at the Decotah Ridge Golf Club to beat out a field of 70 competitors and advance to the national championship.

In the morning session, Bai paced the field after carding five birdies through his first six holes. By the conclusion of Monday action, he finished three shots better than the field to take the top honors and qualify for his first USGA event.

The Lake Mary, Fla., native, who notched a trio of top 10 finishes and helped the Knights to back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances, will now compete for the national championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links Aug. 13-19 in Pebble Beach, Calif.

"Pebble Beach is a historic venue and tournament, and one of the most beautiful courses. I will enjoy the scenery as well as the challenges."

A field of 312 players will compete at the USGA's oldest championship in August at both Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill Golf, as Pebble Beach will host the event for the fourth time since 1929.
