Top 10 Moments – The first two years under head coach Johnny Dawkins have included a number of great moments for UCF Men's Basketball. With a highly anticipated third season coming up in 2018-19, we're counting down the Top 10 Moments in the Johnny Dawkins era so far.

#7 – KNIGHTS SET RECORD IN SHUTDOWN OF SMU

The UCF defense under Johnny Dawkins has been tremendous. Over two years, the Knights have held their opponent to less the 50 points nine times. In 2016-17 UCF led the nation in field goal percentage defense and this past season, the Black and Gold ranked third in the nation allowing just 61.7 points per game.

One defensive performance that was particularly memorable occurred on Feb. 17, 2018 when SMU visited CFE Arena.

Heading into the game, SMU had enjoyed the best of the series against UCF, winning each of the previous eight matchups. In fact, the Knights had not defeated the Mustangs since both teams joined the American Athletic Conference.

Without 2017 Defensive Player of the Year in The American Tacko Fall, the Knights continued to show their prowess on the grittier end of the court.

UCF won convincingly, 52-37, holding SMU to its lowest point total of the season. The Mustangs shot just 25.6 percent from the floor and only managed 17 points by halftime.

It marked a new record at CFE Arena and tied the program record for least points in a game by an opponent.

Back in 2006, UCF held Florida Tech to 37 points. But this was different. SMU was a conference opponent, the defending champion in The American, and had been to the NCAA Tournament two of the previous three seasons.

On that night, the Mustangs couldn't do anything offensively.
