MBB Top Moment #9

Top 10 Moments - The first two years under head coach Johnny Dawkins have included a number of great moments for UCF Men's Basketball. With a highly anticipated third season coming up in 2018-19, we're counting down the Top 10 Moments in the Johnny Dawkins era so far.

#9 - MATT WILLIAMS' 11 THREE-POINTERS

He left UCF as the program's all-time leader in three-pointers made. His senior season was record-setting by both UCF and American Athletic Conference standards. But maybe neither were the most impressive feat for Matt Williams as a Knight.

A single game. Just 32 minutes on the court. On Jan. 17, 2017, Matt Williams connected on 11 three-pointers in a convincing UCF win over rival USF, setting a record for UCF and The American.

He destroyed the previous best by a Knight. Jason Thornton (2000), Brad Traina (1999) and Harry Kennedy (1996) had each knocked down eight in a game during their time in Black and Gold.

But it wasn't just that he set the record, or by how much he surpassed it, it was the way Williams did it.

He had absolutely no conscience. Known for his nearly immeasurable range, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from right here in Orlando was looking to shoot right after stepping over half-court.

Williams finished with a career high 38 points, the third most every by a Knight in the program's Division I era. Only Jermaine Taylor and Mark Jones scored more than him in a single game.

That night he was featured on SportsCenter multiple times as the anchors dissected exactly how far away from the basketball some of his three-pointer were made from.
