ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF pitcher Chris Williams was named the final Pitcher of the Week for the 2018 season by the American Athletic Conference.

The redshirt junior matched a career high with eight innings pitched against Tulane last weekend. After the Knights taxed its bullpen in the series opener against the Green Wave, the Black and Gold needed a long outing by Williams, and the righty delivered.

Williams struck out seven during his time on the bump. He shook off a solo home run in the first inning to allow just one hit over his last seven innings. Williams retired 11 in a row between the third and seventh innings.

The righty has been the lone constant in the UCF rotation, making a start in every weekend series this season. Williams has tossed a career-best 87 1/3 innings in 2018 with 74 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.47 over 14 starts.

Williams and the Knights will open the 2018 American Athletic Conference Tournament, presented by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, on Tuesday as the No. 5 seed against the No. 4 seed ECU at 3 p.m. at Spectrum Field.
