ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men's golf team has earned its second straight berth to the NCAA Regional Championships, announced via live broadcast on the Golf Channel Wednesday. The regional, hosted by UCF, will be held May 14-16 at the Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla.
This will be the seventh time in head coach Bryce Wallor's nine-year tenure that the program is headed to an NCAA Regional Championship.
In last year's regional, the Black and Gold squad was crowned champion with a team score of 863 (-1) and earned a trip to Nationals where they finished tied for 14th.
The Knights are coming off a third-place finish at the American Athletic Conference Championship where the team shot a three-day total of 865 ( 13) on the par-71 course.
"We are extremely excited and we knew that if we got in, we'd be able to play close to home," said Wallor. "We have worked really hard these last few weeks to make sure we held our ground so now we can get a lot of preparation in on the course and hope to have the same results as last year."
UCF, which holds a Golfstat.com ranking of 59, is among the top two squads in The American behind No. 20, USF. The Knights will be the No. 10 seed heading into the Regional, which will also include top seeded Vanderbilt. Fellow Sunshine State teams include Florida, USF, and Jacksonville State. A full list of participants can be found here.
The event will be free to attend. For fans unable to attend, live scoring will be available via Golfstat.com.
Each year, 81 teams and 45 individuals are selected to compete in the six NCAA Men's Regional Championships. Thirty teams and six individuals will then advance from regional sites to the national championships held in Stillwater, Okla.
