ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The battery of Alea White and Cassady Brewer continue to collect postseason honors as both were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First-Team All-Region announced Thursday.
This is both White and Brewer's second honors this postseason after White was selected to the American Athletic Conference second-team, and Brewer earned first-team accolades. In program history, the Knights have now produced 10 first-team award winners, and 18 all-region selections overall.
This is White's first NFCA honors in her young career. The sophomore climbed the single season record books in multiple categories after her impressive second year. After the 2018 campaign, she is third in appearance (49), games started (38), and innings pitched (266.2). She is also tied for fourth in wins in a season with 25 and tied for eighth in shutouts with seven.
Throughout the season, White was ranked as one of the top pitchers in the nation in wins, finishing the regular season ranked fourth among Division I pitchers.
White led the Knights past No. 4 Florida earlier this season giving up just one hit, a feat no other pitcher has done this season to the Gators. The Land O' Lakes native earned The American Pitcher of the Week three times this season establishing herself as one of the top pitchers in the conference since the start of the season.
Brewer is the lone catcher in the Mideast region to earn first-team honors. The junior paced the Knights in slugging percentage (.520) recording 43 hits, eight doubles, and five homers for 66 total bases.
In the win over Florida, Brewer drove in the only run of the game leading the Knights' charge to victory.
The catcher from Apopka, ranks in the top 25 nationally in walks drawing 37 on the season, 19 of which were in conference play. She will enter the 2019 season with a 22-game on base streak after she walked 22 times and registered 23 hits for a .434 batting average in the 22-game span.
Behind the plate, Brewer was just as impressive as she now holds the single season record for most pickoffs with four.
The Knights finished the season 34-22 overall on the season and 12-9 in conference play. UCF finished tied for third for the second consecutive year. In their four seasons The American, UCF has finished third or better each year.
