ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Yet another record-setting semester in the classroom is in the books for UCF Athletics, as the Knights' average GPA of 3.33 for the spring of 2018 marked a program high for the third straight term.
It marked the 21st consecutive semester that UCF student-athletes have achieved at least a 3.0 GPA as a department, the longest streak in school history, and 15 teams had a combined GPA of 3.0 or better this spring.
"I love how our student-athletes excel both in the classroom and on the field or court," said Tara Helton, Assistant Athletics Director for Academics. "Their passion is evident in everything they do and their success exemplifies that. It also really shows how committed our coaches and ASSA staff are to the success of our student-athletes."
Since Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Daniel J. White arrived at UCF, the Knights have improved their GPA each and every semester, starting at 3.01 in the spring of 2016 to 3.15, 3.27, 3.31, and finally 3.33 in the spring of 2018.
This semester 73 percent (328) of student-athletes achieved at least a 3.0 GPA, 34 percent (155) made the Dean's List with a 3.4 GPA or higher, and 41 Knights (9%) recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Three teams set or tied a new program record for semester GPA this spring:
- Men's Basketball, 3.03
- Track and Field, 3.37
- Men's Tennis, 3.55
The men's tennis team also earned the highest GPA of all the men's programs and received the American Athletic Conference Academic Excellence Award. The women's tennis team's 3.69 GPA was the best among women's programs at UCF.
Four additional teams recorded their second highest semester GPA ever:
- Cross Country, 3.62
- Softball, 3.45
- Baseball, 3.18
- Football, 2.97
