Flustering No. 4 Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - A record-breaking sellout crowd of 1,236 was on hand to watch the UCF softball team earn a 1-0 victory over No. 4 Florida on Wednesday evening at the UCF Softball Complex.

Alea White turned in a one-hit performance, collecting her 19th win and seventh shutout of the season.

Cassady Brewer led the way offensively for the Knights, going 3-for-3 against Aleshia Ocasio. The Apopka, Fla., native drove in the lone run of the game, scoring Aubrey Johnson on a single through the right side. Johnson and Erin Emanuel each collected a hit for UCF.

With the win, the Knights improve to 25-13 on the season and remain 5-1 in the American Athletic Conference as they prepare for UConn this upcoming weekend.

UCF struck first in the bottom of the first inning on a Johnson single to right field with one out. Courtney Rotton fouled out to deep right field, allowing Johnson to tag up and advance to second. Brewer swung at the first pitch, roping a ball through the right side and Johnson was sent home to score giving the Knights the 1-0 lead.

The Gators drew five walks, but White and the defense were able to keep Florida off the scoreboard.

FOURTH AGAINST FLORIDA

  • Wednesday's victory marked UCF's fourth victory in the series against Florida.
  • The last time the Knights defeated the Gators came on April 11, 2012 in Orlando when UCF shut out then-No. 3 Florida, 2-0.

  • Cassady Brewer's older sister Danielle was a junior on the squad in UCF's 2012 victory.
