ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The No. 22 UCF women's tennis team goes for 10 straight wins Wednesday, when the ladies make the trip down to Tampa to battle American Athletic Conference foe USF in a 3 p.m. match.
The War On I-4 series between the two in-state rivals continues with the Knights (15-2, 3-0) currently leading the Bulls (11-7, 4-1) 30-15 in the year-long competition across all sports.
"USF is always a fun in-state rival," said UCF head coach Bryan Koniecko. "With the War On I-4, it's always a little extra motivation for our team. Anytime you play an in-state rival, you want to do your best and you want to show that we're the top team and keep it going."
The Knights have been red hot during their record breaking season. The Black and Gold have been in the top 25 of the Oracle/ITA Division I ranking for five straight weeks, with each ranking exceeding the highest in program history.
UCF is coming off a 4-1 victory over FIU March 30. The Knights were dominant in doubles to open the match, setting the pace for their ninth straight win.
Ksenia Kuznetsova and Maria Martinez cracked the doubles rankings as well for the first time this season, checking in at No. 72. The duo lead the Knights with a 10-3 record together and defeated the then No. 14 ranked pair of Ulyana Grib and Maryna Vekslar for FIU.
Rebeka Stolmar leads the team with a 15-1 record overall in singles play this season.
USF most recently defeated Brown 6-1 on March 25 in which was also the Bulls' ninth straight win. The Bulls are led by seniors Juliana Cardoso and Jessica Cortes Chavez.
