PALM HARBOR, Kan. (UCFKnights.com) - Kyler Tate ends the first day of the American Athletic Conference men's golf championships tied for second overall finishing even on the day with a 71.

The Knights round out the day in second place shooting 289, five over par. UCF led the field after the first nine holes and four under par with eight birdies, but a pair of bogies after the turn set them back to second.

Bobby Bai and Manuel Elvira are tied for tenth overall each recording a 72 for round one, while Juuso Kahlos put up a 74 and Donnie Trosper ended day one five over par with a 76.

The Knights' leader, Tate, was one over par on the front nine, but bounced back collecting three straight birdies on the back nine to move himself up on the leaderboard.

UCF is tied with SMU for most birdies with 16 and lead the pack in average strokes per par five with 4.55 strokes.

The Knights start round two at 8:55 a.m. partnering with leader, USF.

The American Championship will take place on the Par 71, 7125-yard Copperhead Course from Sunday, April 22 to Tuesday, April 24 at the Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Fla. Eighteen holes will be played Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Admission to the event is free and open to the public.

The American Digital Network will have live coverage of the 18th hole on Tuesday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The ADN will also cover the awards ceremony with player and coach interviews.
