Wheels Up to Wichita

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) –  The UCF softball team begins their back-to-back road series matchups with a trip to Wichita State for a three-game battle.

Due to rain in the forecast, a doubleheader is slated for Friday, April 20 with game one at 5 p.m. EST followed by game two at 7:30 p.m. EST. A Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. EST will cap off the weekend. All three games will be streamed with live stats available on GoShockers.com.  

The Knights, 30-16 overall (8-4 in the American Athletic Conference), are coming off a 2-1 win over Florida Atlantic Tuesday evening at the UCF Softball Complex, where drama in the seventh inning propelled the Knights to exceed their number of wins from the 2017 campaign.

Cassady Brewer has warmed up late in the season as she paces The American in walks per game (0.64) with 27 total on the season. She has reached base safely in her last 13 games, and has drawn at least one walk in her last eight contests.

Cierra Word, a walk-on freshman, has picked up two wins in her last two appearances throwing 5.1 innings allowing just three hits and one run. Word is 3-0 on the season with 14 appearances.

THE FIELD
Wichita State: 23-17 overall, and 6-6 in The American. This will be the first meeting between the Shockers and the Knights.

Wichita State is 2-3 in their last five games after dropping a midweek matchup to No. 2 Oklahoma and falling in the series with Houston.

The Shockers are currently tied with four other teams in the conference with a 6-6 record behind USF (9-3) and UCF (8-4).

RECAPPING THE LAST UCF OUTING
The Knights sealed a 2-1 victory over FAU with a bases-loaded 4-2-3 double play in the top of the seventh to kill the Owls rally and grab their 30th win of the season Tuesday night at the UCF Softball Complex.

Erin Emanuel went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Brooke Barlow went 1-for-1 with the go-ahead RBI in the sixth to secure the win for the Knights.
