ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men's basketball team added to its arsenal on Wednesday, signing junior college sharpshooter Frank Bertz to a National Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
Bertz, a 6-foot-5 guard out of Hesperia, Calif., played the last two seasons at East Los Angeles College. A two-year starter with the Huskies, Bertz built a reputation as one of the best outside shooters in junior college basketball.
"Frank will bring some versatility to our program with his length on the perimeter," UCF head coach Johnny Dawkins said. "He has a really good basketball IQ, a good feel for the game, and he's a knock-down three-point shooter, so I think he'll provide a lot for us. He's a team guy and he'll contribute in a lot of ways, both offensively and defensively."
As a sophomore in 2017-18, Bertz shot 48 percent from beyond the arc, knocking down 79-of-166 three-point attempts. He also averaged 13.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 88 percent from the free throw line.
Bertz led ELAC to a 24-6 overall record, a 9-1 league mark, and a South Coast Conference Championship en route to earning First Team All-Conference honors.
The Knights now have two players signed for the incoming class, as Bertz joins early signee Dre Fuller out of Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg.
