ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF baseball team will round out its season series against Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday night with a midweek contest at John Euliano Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will be streamed on UCFKnights.tv.
The Knights (25-12) bested the Wildcats 6-1 back on Feb. 27. JJ Montgomery threw 5 2/3 innings in his first career start for the Black and Gold and struck out six batters, while surrendering one hit and two walks. Matthew Mika went 3-for-5 at the plate with a pair of RBI. The Knights stole a trio of bases.
UCF is coming off a 3-1 week, which featured a midweek win at Miami and a series victory over Cincinnati. Tyler Osik was named the American Athletic Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Knights with 13 RBI and a trio of home runs last week. Chris Williams made an appearance on the American Weekly Honor Roll following his eight innings of work on Saturday with six strikeouts and no walks.
Osik, Mika and Rylan Thomas have powered the Knights offensively this season. At least one member of the trio has driven in a run in 33 of UCF's 37 games in 2018. Osik and Thomas lead the team with 45 and 41 RBI, respectively. Mika enters the week with 26 RBI and 23 stolen bases.
Bethune-Cookman is 14-22, entering its Tuesday night contest at Florida Atlantic. Nate Sterijevski is the lone Wildcat hitting above .300 this season. On the mound, Ivan Coutinho has come out of the bullpen on 12 occasions to post a team-best 2.66 ERA with a trio of saves.
